Beloit volunteer fire department was started in 1952 with one pumper and a small tanker. The Beloit ems was started in 1980. Now the department runs with two pumpers, two squads, a grass unit with a skid unit loaded in the bed for grass fires, also have a gator for grass fires or to transport people to the squad where the squad can’t go. The department also has a tanker that carries 4000 gallons of water. The fire department volunteers are not only village residents. They are residents of smith township, Goshen township, Sebring, and some from Knox township. We also have two working fire stations, one on each side of the tracks to help protect the village residents and the students of west branch high school and middle school. In June of 2017 the Beloit Fire ems personal received the Star Life Award for saving a teachers life from West Branch high school. Beloit fire department current officers are Chief Larry Barnett, Asst Chief Phil Dickens, Fire Captain Mark Sanor and Fire Lieutenant Karen Kampfer. Beloit EMS current officers are EMS Captain Vernon Dick and EMS Lieutenant John McGuire.

Smith Township is currently contracted with and protected by two great area Fire Departments in the Sebring Fire Department and the Beloit Fire Department. Combined, both departments cover the full 32 square miles so every resident is provided adequate fire services.
